A bathtub is great for bathing infants and toddlers in. You can fill a bathtub with minimal water to ensure they're safe and bathe them. They're also great if you want a long soak after a hard day's work. However, not everyone has kids, or their children have moved-out. And, for everyday personal bathing, most of us prefer a quick shower over soaking in a tub before we rush off to work. What's more, filling a bathtub with water using more water than taking a shower.

Bathtubs are dangerous, though. It's easy to slip and fall when stepping over the wet walls of a bathtub. Shower curtains are notoriously difficult to clean. And, they often get damaged when taking them down to clean. Most people replace their shower curtain very year. Although they're not expensive, this is a waste and they often end-up in the landfill. A shower curtain also hides the beautiful tile work in your shower. You spent money on that tile and design. Let it be seen. Lastly, a shower curtain makes your bathroom smaller.

A framed or frameless shower enclosure, on the other hand, lets you show-off the gorgeous tile that's in your shower. Because clean glass is used, they also make your bathroom appear larger.

Shower Curtain to Sliding Glass Door

For those wanting to ditch their filthy shower curtain but keep their bathtub, a sliding glass door installation is an option. A sliding glass door is much easier to clean and lasts much longer than a shower curtain. What's more, you can keep your bathtub to bathe your little ones in. Replacing that shower curtain with a clear sliding glass enclosure lets your tile shine and makes your bathroom appear a little larger.

Framed or Frameless Shower Enclosures

If you really want to make the most of your bathroom remodel or new bathroom design, consider not having a bathtub at all and instead a framed or frameless shower enclosure. The advantage here is there's no bathtub wall to step over and trip on. This, too, allows the beautiful tile work and design in your shower to be seen.

Framed Shower Enclosures

Framed shower enclosures have a metal frame around most or all of the glass, like a picture frame. Some folks like the look of a framed shower enclosure - it gives the appearance of structure and more visual cues as to where the glass wall or door is. They can also be more cost-effective and quicker to install. Our framed shower enclosures come in either 3/16" or 1/4" thick clear, tempered glass. The glass comes with a factory-applied film for easier cleaning. Framing and hardware are available in a variety of finishes, including, but not limited to, chrome, brushed nickel, satin black, and stainless steel.

Frameless or European Shower Enclosures

Frameless, also known as European shower enclosures, have much less metal framing. This provides a cleaner look most people want. Our frameless enclosures come in either 3/8" or 1/2" thick glass. All glass is tempered for your safety and protection. Privacy etching is available on any of our shower enclosures.

Shower Enclosure FAQs

Q. What do you recommend cleaning shower enclosure glass with, and how often?

A. Use an alcohol based glass cleaner to clean the glass of your framed or frameless shower enclosure. Ammonia based products are too abrasive on finishes. We recommend cleaning your new shower enclosure with the alcohol-based glass cleaner every 2 weeks. Use a squeegee after each shower use.

Q. I like my bathtub, but do not like the shower curtain. Can you just replace my shower curtain with sliding glass doors?

A. Of course. Replacing that shower curtain with sliding glass doors is a great idea. Shower curtains are notoriously hard to clean and difficult to take down and back up. What's more, they don't last that long - maybe a year or two. A sliding glass door, on the other hand, is easy to clean and will last a long time.

Q. I don't want a door sill/threshold in my new shower. Can you install a shower enclosure without one?

A.  We sure can. That's what we call a frameless shower enclosure. Instead of a sill or threshold, there's a sweep attached to the door that helps to keep water in the shower. This way, there no sill or threshold to step on or over when you enter or exit your shower enclosure. 🙂
